One of our wonderful science teachers

Yet again another one of our great science teachers here at Truckee High is Kathy Tallant. She teaches chemistry, forensic science, and marine biology. She attended California State University, University of Nevada, and Sierra Nevada college for her credentials to teach all the science courses's she teaches. She also did 18 years of biological consulting. Mrs. Tallant is a great addition to our staff at Truckee High.

Finding Nemo- Marine Biology

In the Marine Biology class here at Truckee High we have been watching Finding Nemo for the past few days. I think this is a good thing because it adds a little excitement to the course you are taking, and it is also an educational movie about the ocean and reefs. Our science department here at Truckee High does a good job at making some things that they teach fun so it's not just regular class stuff all the time like notes and lectures.

Another one of Our Great Science teachers

Kirby Reed is another one of our skilled science teachers here at Truckee High School. He teaches 9th grade science and Biology. This is his first year teaching here at Truckee High, but before he worked here he worked at North Tahoe High School for about 15 years. From what I have heard from his students, he is a very nice teacher and is good at his job. I think Mr.Reed is a great addition to the Truckee High Staff.

Squid Disection - Marine Biology

On friday in Marine Biology I got to take place in an exciting squid disection. This is only one of the many disections that take place in the Marine Biology class here at Truckee High School. I think the disections that take place are great hands on activities that really help you understand the anatmoy of the animals we disect.
The photo to the left is a picture that shows the external anatomy of a squid.

Dragon Fish- Deep Sea Creature

Dragon Fish- the dragon fish is a furocious predator even though it is small. this fish grows to about six inches. It has a large head with fang-like teeth, and a long barrel attached to its chin. The barrel has a light producing organ known as a photophore, which it uses kind of like a fishing lure. They also have these organs along their sides for signaling other dragon fish during mating. Dragon fish live in deep ocean waters up to 5000 feet, and they are found in most tropical regions of the world.

Susan Lowder

Another one of our science teachers here at Truckee High School is Susan Lowder. She teaches advanced chemistry, advanced physics, and just regular chemistry and physics. She is one out of the two women teaching science here, and she does a very good job at it. She has also had some experience teaching honors 9th grade science, geology, and meteorology. In 2000 she was a fullbright exchange teacher in Devon, England where she taught a few different forms of chemistry. I would definitly have to say that Mrs.Lowder is a great addition to the Truckee High staff.

Another one of our amazing science teachers

Another one of our science teachers at Truckee High is Paul Smith. He teaches 9th grade science, AP biology, and biology. He has been teaching at Truckee High since 1991, and is a great addition to our staff at Truckee High. He really makes learning science interesting and makes you want to pay attention and learn what he has to teach. Also before he came to teach at Truckee High he taught at a Catholic School in the bay area so he has a lot of teaching experience and his own way of teaching students. I think Mr.Smith is a very good teacher, and hopes he stays a science teacher for Truckee High for a while.
